Are employees of pay leve 6 to 13 are entitled to move on non-ac/ ordinary taxi on temporary duty?

As per 7th CPC level 6 to 8 as entitle for travel in AC-II/by air in economics class on (on duty).my question is I am a sports player participating in departmental sports & national sports on on duty I will get same facility on on duty in sports to participate in outside the state.

A.(i) Travel Entitlements within the Country

Pay Level in Pay Matrix Travel entitlement 6 to 11 Economy class by air or AC-II by train

As per 7 CPC for the Pay level mentioned above it says that 6 to 11are eligible for AIR travel entitlement . I being sports men represent Department in Central Revenue sports meet and travelled by Air. Whereas on submission of my TA claim PAO rejected my claim stating that journey/tour performed by sportsperson are considered as recreation purpose hence only 3rd AC is eligible. Is that correct pls clarify

Hence, for the to and fro journey, the fare reimbursement shall be provided for a total of 200 Kms (100 Kms each side)

OFFICE MEMORANDUM

Subject:- Central Civil Services (Leave Travel Concession) Rules, 1988 Fulfillment of procedural requirements clarification reg.

The undersigned is directed to refer to para (c) of this Department’s O.M. of even number dated 09.02.2017 on the subject noted above regarding reimbursement in cases where a Government servant travels on LTC up to the nearest airport/ railway station/ bus terminal by authorized mode of transport and undertakes rest of the journey to the declared place of visit by private transport/ own arrangement (such as personal vehicle or private taxi etc.).

Para (c) of the aforesaid O.M. provides as under:

“(c) In case, there is no public transport available in a particular stretch of journey, the Government servant may be reimbursed as per his entitlement for journey on transfer for a maximum limit of 100 Kms covered by the private/ personal transport based on a self-certification from the Government servant. Beyond this, the expenditure shall be borne by the Government servant”.

With regard to the above provision, many references are received in this Department seeking following clarifications:-

(i) Whether the 100 Kms limit specified in DoPT’s O.M. No. 31011/3/ 2015-Estt.A-IV dated 09.02.2017 is for the whole journey (i.e. to and fro combined) or separately for onward and return journey, i.e. 100 Kms for onward and 100 Kms for return journey?

(ii) How assistance shall be provided in cases where various members of a family avail LTC separately and thus avail the facility of private taxi/ transport separately? Whether in such cases also reimbursement as above shall be provided individually to each family member?

4.The matter has been considered in this Department and it is clarified that the 100 Kms limit as prescribed in DoPT’s O.M. No. 31011/3/ 2015-Estt.A-IV dated 09.02.2017 is to be seen from one side. Hence, for the to and fro journey, the fare reimbursement shall be provided for a total of 200 Kms (100 Kms each side) .

5.As regards the second situation described in para 3(ii) above, it is stated that in cases where members of the family avail LTC separately, they shall also be eligible for reimbursement of taxi fare/ private transport separately as per DoPT’s O.M. No. 31011/ 3/ 2015-Estt.A-IV dated 09.02.2017.

Travelling Allowance is not a regular allowance for all employees! Travelling Allowance is that the permission to avail reimbursement of the expenses incurred by an employee while on duty in outstation! Travelling Allowance is the package of various allowances. Travelling Allowance and Daily Allowance (TA-DA), Hotel Charges, Travelling Charges, Food Charges, Mileage Allowance, Reservation Charges, Internet and E-Ticketing Charges, Cancellation Charges, Conveyance Charges, TA on Deputation, TA on Transfer and TA on Retirement.

New Revised Rate and Entitlements of Travelling allowance as per 7th pay commission with effect from 1st July 2017: For Armed Forces Defence Personnel and Railway employees, the concerned department will issue separate orders on this subject respectively. Supersession of all orders issued earlier, particularly DoE Office Memorandum No.19030/3/2008-E.IV dated 23.9.2008, in respect of Travelling Allowance rules.

TA/DA Rules for Central Govt Employees

What is ta/da.

TA/DA stands for Travelling Allowance and Daily Allowance (not Dearness allowance ). TA means the travel expenses as per entitlement on official duty. DA means the food and accommodation charges as per the entitlement. Travelling allowance and Daily allowance are fixed amounts as per the pay matrix level after the 7th pay commission.

What is Travelling Allowance?

A reimbursement system for travelling expenses while on duty (official duty or temporary duty). And any kind of travelling expenses is permissible as per entitlements of TA/DA Rules. Other than travel expenses, accommodation, food and other related expenses are also eligible for reimbursement under Daily Allowance. The revised rates of TA and DA allowances after the 7th pay commission are given below in detail.

Reimbursement of Hotel charges

Claiming of hotel charges procedure for CG Staff and Officers with effect from 1st July 2017 as per the recommendations of 7th pay commission.

For levels 8 and below, the amount of claim (up to the ceiling) may be paid without the production of vouchers against self-certified claims only. The self-certified claim should clearly indicate the period of stay, name of dwelling, etc. additionally, for a stay in Class ‘X’ cities, the ceiling for all employees up to Level 8 would be Rs. 1,000 per day, but it will only be in the form of reimbursement upon production of relevant vouchers.

Reimbursement of Travelling charges

Reimbursement of TA for Central Government Officers and Staff from 1st July 2017.

Similar to Reimbursement of staying accommodation charges, for level 8 and below, the claim (up to the ceiling) may be paid without production of vouchers against self-certified claim only.

The self-certified claim should clearly indicate the period of travel, vehicle number, etc. the ceiling for levels 11 and below will further rise by 25 per cent whenever DA increases by 50 per cent. For journeys on foot, an allowance of Rs.12/- per kilometre travelled on foot shall be payable additionally.

Reimbursement of Food charges Procedure

Reimbursement of food bills procedure for CG Employees after 7th pay commission.

There will be no separate reimbursement of food bills. Instead, the lump sum amount payable will be as per Table E (i) above and, depending on the length of absence from headquarters, would be regulated as per Table (v) below.

Since the concept of reimbursement has been done away with, no vouchers will be required. This methodology is in line with that followed by Indian Railways at present (with suitable enhancement of rates). i.e. Lump sum amount payable.

Timing restrictions – Absence from HeadQuarter

Absence from Head Quarter will be reckoned from midnight to midnight and will be calculated on a per-day basis.

If absence from headquarters is less than 6 hours = 30% of Lumpsum amount

If absence from headquarters is between 6 -12 hours = 70% of Lumpsum amount

If absence from headquarters is more than 12 hours = 100% of Lumpsum amount

The travelling allowance referred to will be admissible in respect of the journey of the Government servant and members of his family from the last station of his duty to his home town or to the place where he and his family is to settle down permanently even if it is other than his declared home town and in respect of the transportation of his personal effects between the same places.

S.R. 147 the expenditure on transportation of conveyance by government servants on their retirement shall be reimbursed without insisting on the requirement that the possession of the conveyance by them while in service at their last place of duty should have been in the public interest. TA/DA Rules for Retiring Employees

TA on Retirement includes 4 components:-

Travel entitlement for self and family
Composite Transfer and packing grant (CTG)
Reimbursement of charges on transportation of personal effects
Reimbursement of charges on transportation of conveyance.

(i) Travel Entitlements

Travel entitlements as prescribed for tour/transfer in Para 2 above, except for International Travel, will be applicable in case of journeys on retirement. The general conditions of admissibility prescribed in S.R. 147 will, however, continue to be applicable.

(ii) Composite Transfer Grant (CTG)

(a) The Composite Transfer Grant shall be paid at the rate of 80% of the last month’s basic pay in case of those employees, who on retirement, settled down at places other than the last station(s) of their duty located at a distance of or more than 20 km.

However, in case of settlement to and from the Island territories of Andaman, Nicobar & Lakshadweep, CTG shall be paid at the rate of 100% of last month’s basic pay.

Further, NPA and MSP shall not be included as part of basic pay while determining entitlement for CTG.

The transfer incidentals and road mileage for journeys between the residence and the railway station/bus stand, etc., at the old and new station, are already subsumed in the composite transfer grant and will not be separately admissible.

(b) As in the case of serving employees, Government servants who, on retirement, settle at the last station of duty itself or within a distance of less than 20 km may be paid one-third of the CTG subject to the condition that a change of residence is actually involved.

(iii) Transportation of Personal Effects:- Same as Para 3(iii) above.

(iv) Transportation of Conveyance:- Same as Para 3(iv) above.

The general conditions of admissibility of TA on Retirement as prescribed in S.R. 147 will, however, continue to be applicable.

If the family of Railway employee accompanies him on transfer to/from these areas, the employee is entitled to the admissible cost of transportation of personal effects and production of receipt/voucher is mandatory to claim admissible amount.as per his entitlement for transportation of personal effects.

What is Travelling Allowance for Govt employees?

Granting of Travelling Allowance for Central Government employees is based on the travel expenses including boarding and lodging expenses while on official duty.

What is the difference between Travelling Allowance and Transport Allowance?

Transport Allowance is a fixed monthly amount and this is common for all government employees. The Transport Allowance is grating for the expenses travelling between office and residence. Travelling Allowance is entirely different from Transport Allowance. The Travelling Allowance is generally called TA/DA. This allowance is eligible only for the employees who have travelled on official duty.

What is the accommodation charges for pay level 5 as per 7th CPC?

The accommodation charges for pay levels 1 to 5 are Rs. 450 per day after implementation of the 7th pay commission.

I was posted at siliguri last year and joined Malda( WB) in July 2023. I took permission from HOD to keep family at siliguri as my child was studying in class 10th and accordingly didn’t claimed transfer TA and luggage transportation of family and permission was also granted to claim Transfer TA beyond 6 months. Now again I am posted to Orissa which is non family station and suppose to move in June 2024. . I intend to shift my family to delhi for better study of my children. What Transfer TA will I get in respect of my family and house hold goods shifting 1. Siliguri to Malda or Malda to Delhi or both or can I shift family and luggage directly to delhi from siliguri

Your 6 months permission was completed in January was over to shift your family. Now your duty point is ORISSA, if Orissa is temporary post you can claim Malta to Orissa only not in Delhi.

Sir, I have proceeded on temp duty for which I have claimed for food & lodging charges @ Rs.1550/- per day (i.e. food charges @ Rs.750/- & lodging charges @ Rs.800/-per day). In addition to the above, I have claimed conveyance charges @ Rs.225/-per day and Foot charges @ Rs.12/-as per rules, but my audit authorities have disallowed conveyance and foot charges in full without any reason or quoting any govt rules/orders. Therefore, I request to kindly confirm I am entitled to conveyance charges @ Rs.225/- and Foot charges @ Rs.12/- per day in addition to food and lodging charges as per rules, please. I aspect for your fruitful reply with quoting rules, so that I can re-submit my claim to audit authorities in support, please.

Please clarify about the rule of TA in case an officer travels in his own car between the places not connected by railways. He is entitled to get the prescribed rates of the car by the state transport department or he will get the rates of Auto Riksha as given in the above table

(i) At places where specific rates have been prescribed:- 14 Or Above Actual Fare By Any Type Of Public Bus Including AC Bus OR At Prescribed Rates Of AC Taxi When The Journey is Actually Performed By AC Taxi OR At Prescribed Rates For Auto Rickshaw For Journey By Auto Rickshaw, Own Car, Scooter, Motor Cycle, Moped, Etc. If your own car in this table is a topographical mistake (it was not there in 6 CPC) how to get it corrected from Finance Ministry.

sir, i retired from central govt on 30.11.2018 from delhi. my pay level is 10 under 7th cpc.. my home town is gurgaon and before retirement i was residing in delhi. distance between my delhi residence/office and gurgaon residence is more than 25 kms . i have claimed my composite transfer grant (ctg) ie 80% of my last basic pay but the deptt has restricted that to 1/3 ctg. kindly clarify my admissibility with regard to rules on the subject-regards!

As per the T.A.Rules on Transfer Rule (ii) b, CTG have been calculated the distance of less than 20 Kms. from the old station and transferred place within the same city. If it confirmed with any records of 25 Kms.(extract)) you can claim and get the 80% of your last basic pay. Please check up it is as per your pre-revised scale prior to 1.7.2017 and shifted before the date.

My current GP is 1900 and TA 1600+DA(1904) = 3504. but as per 7th CPC recommendation the new TA stands at 1350+DA(0)=1350. Please rectify the anomaly before government notification. A large amount of employee will face the same problem.

I have only one doubt, either petrol or Diesel rates are through out the India is almost same. May be the difference is nominal. If that is the case why x- City employees should get more and Y-City employees should get less. I personally felt that, Transport allowance should be equal to allover the India. In case govt wants to Differentiate, it can be paid based on the distance KM.

This is purely my personnel opinion. think friends.

Travelling Allowance applicable to Central Government Employees- A re-visit

Travel entitlements based on grade pay for reimbursing actual cost of journey performed by Central Government Employees by Air and Rail are as follows

Journey by Rail / Air

1. class of accommodation according to grade pay:.

From 01.09.2008, Central Government Servants are entitled for accommodation as follows.

Officers drawing Grade Pay of Rs.7600 and above are entitled to travel on tour by Executive Class in Shatabti Trains / AC first class in Rajdhani Train.

B. International Travel Entitlement:

C. Entitlement for journeys by Sea or by River Steamer (SR. 40):

(ii) Accommodation entitlements for travel between the mainland and the A&N Group of Islands and Lakshadweep Group of Island by ships operated by the Shipping Corporation of India Limited will be as follows:

D. Mileage Allowance for Journeys by Road:

Mileage allowance is a reimbursement of cost spent by a Government Employee for travelling from one place to another place for performing government duty. It is a part of Travelling Allowance applicable to Central Government Employees under TA Rules.

In supersession of S.R.46 and the Government of India’s order thereunder, the grade pay ranges for travel by public/bus/auto/rickshaw/scooter/motor cycle, full taxi/taxi/own car is revised as indicated below:

(b) Mileage allowance for road journeys shall be regulated at the following rates in places where no specific rates have been prescribed either by the Director of Transport of the concerned State or of the neighbouring States:

(i) For journeys performed in own car/taxi: Rs. 16 per km. (This amount is revised to Rs.20 after DA crossed 50%)

(ii) For journeys performed by auto rickshaw own scooter, etc.: Rs. 8 per km. (This amount is revised to Rs.10 after DA crossed 50%)

(c) The rate of Mileage Allowance for journeys on bicycle on tour and transfer, is Rs 1.20 per kilometer. (This amount is revised to Rs.1.50 after DA crossed 50%)

The following charges are reimbursable while performing journey on Rail.

1. Reservation charges

2. Sleeper Charges

3. Telegram Charges

4. Cancellation and reservation Charges while journey cancelled for official work.

5. Special supplementary charges levied by the Railways for travel by Super Fast Express Trains.

6. Tatkal Charges if official jouney is undertaken in emergency.

7. Education cess and Service Tax applicable for train fare.

The following charges are reimbursable when official jouney is perfomed in a Bus.

1. Reimbursement of Sleeper charges in bus if any.

2. Cancellation charges when ticket is cancelled due to official work

3. Reservation Charges

The following charges are reimbursable when official journey is performed by Air:

1. Passenger Service fee.

2. Booking charges

3. Cancellation charges when ticket is cancelled due to official work

If you want to watch the construction of a car you probably own, check out this factory within the historic Montgomery city limits. 9. Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky – Georgetown, Kentucky

Welcome to Toyota’s assembly plant in Georgetown, Kentucky!

In the heart of the bluegrass region, not far from Lexington, is a massive Toyota manufacturing plant that has given tours to hundreds of thousands of people since 1990. Visitors can take a free guided tram tour through the inside of the facility while listening to friendly guides over headphones explain the work being done. 8. Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA) – Lafayette, Indiana

If you’re headed to Chicago sometime, swing by the home of North American Subaru production that’s southeast of the Windy City. A free, mile-long walk on an elevated catwalk through the facility offers a unique perspective on production operations, but skirts are highly discouraged for that reason! 7. Ford Rouge Factory – Dearborn, Michigan

The assembly area is only one portion of this thorough five-part, self-guided tour. Apart from seeing the new aluminum F-150 produced in the assembly floor, learn more about the plant’s innovations at the Legacy Theater, Manufacturing Innovation Theater, and Legacy Gallery. Get a close-up look at the most luxurious auto brand around by seeing the Visitor Center Museum and taking a guided tour along the assembly floor, which produces such greats as the M-Class . Although you can’t actually tour the factory here near Columbus which has been producing vehicles for over 50 years, the facility recently opened up a stellar museum on its grounds . 3. General Motors Fairfax Assembly Plant – Kansas City, Kansas

This GM assembly and stamping facility in the heart of barbecue city offers free walking tours on certain days. If you follow the strict set of safety guidelines, you’ll get to see the process of metal being molded into body panels and attached to vehicles like the Buick LaCrosse and the Chevrolet Malibu . Multiple Harley Davidson plants offer tours in the US. A free, hour-long walking tour of the manufacturing plant in York, PA is offered, but most visitors prefer the Steel Toe Tour which–for a decent price–gets you entrance to special areas, a commemorative pin, a group photo, a safety vest, and $5 toward the gift shop. A Kids Corner makes this facility suitable for your whole family.

In the heart of Harley history, Menomonee Falls, WI has the northwest plant. You’ll love the interactive museum in downtown Milwaukee and the grand tour of the production facility. Staying overnight? Consider the unique Iron Horse Hotel.

One Day Los Angeles Self-Driving Tour

What should you do in LA if you only have 1 day to spend? This one-day driving tour will give you a glimpse of the top LA sights from Hollywood to Venice Beach. It assumes you have your own car or a rental car for the day. If it's summer, start in Hollywood to end up in Venice for sunset on the beach. If it's winter and the sun is setting at 4 pm, do the tour in reverse and start at the beach, ending in Hollywood after dark.

If you don't have a car available, you can also book a Hop On-Hop Off City Sightseeing Tour to visit most of the same locations without the driving.

If you don't get out of the car, the drive alone takes about 1 and a half to two and a half hours, depending on traffic, but you can get out and take a look at many different stops and still do this route in a day.

So let's get started exploring Hollywood!

Walking Around Hollywood & Highland

We wouldn't necessarily recommend staying at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, but it's worth taking a look inside at this historic Hollywood landmark, and it makes a good starting reference.

Start your morning with breakfast at Mel's Drive-In , one block east on Highland just south of Hollywood Blvd , or grab a bagel at the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf across from the hotel, then cross the street to compare your hand and footprints to your favorite stars in the forecourt at TCL (Grauman's) Chinese Theatre . Not much in the Hollywood & Highland shopping center next door will be open before 10 or 11 a.m., but walk across the front of the complex past the Dolby Theatre where the Oscars are held to the staircase leading up to the Babylon Courtyard . Don't forget to look down at the Hollywood Walk of Fame as you're walking to see if your favorite entertainers' stars are on this block.

You can take the escalator up to the Babylon Courtyard, but then you won't get a chance to admire how the architects managed to frame a view of the Hollywood Sign as you ascend the center of the staircase. The Courtyard itself looks like a Hollywood set with giant elephant sculptures perched high above the three-level ring of shops. Make your way up to the viewing bridges at the back of the courtyard via stairways or escalators on either side for your photo opportunity with the Hollywood Sign and Hollywood Hills as a backdrop. You can also see the Hollywood Methodist Church with its red ribbon painted on the tower. In the 1943 movie War of the Worlds, terrified citizens took refuge in this church from attacking aliens.

Driving Through Hollywood

Head back to your car and drive east on Hollywood Blvd, past some of Hollywood's other landmarks. The El Capitan Theatre and Disney Entertainment Center opposite Hollywood & Highland was restored by the Disney Company to its previous glory. The Jimmy Kimmel Live! show is taped in the Entertainment Center, while Disney films are screened at next door El Capitan with pre-show visits by costumed movie characters. The Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Disney Studio Store shares the building.

On the next block, next to the dinosaur-topped Ripley's Believe It or Not , just down Highland, you can see the pink and green art deco façade of the original Max Factor factory, which now houses the Hollywood Museum . Continuing east, on your right you will pass the American Cinematheque at the historic Egyptian Theatre and the Art Deco Hollywood icon that was originally Kress Department store. It spent a long time as Frederick’s of Hollywood before being converted to a short-lived restaurant and nightclub. Hollywood's oldest restaurant, Musso & Frank Grill will be on your left.

At Hollywood and Vine, you can look for metered street parking to stop and take a photo of the circular tower of the Capitol Records building, the Hollywood and Vine signs and sky trackers and another view of the Hollywood Sign or you can look left at them as you turn right down Vine Street. Either way, when you're ready, head south (away from the hills) on Vine Street, then turn right on Sunset Boulevard. The half-golf-ball Cinerama Dome is on your left. Amoeba Music, at Ivar, is THE place to shop for hard-to-find music including a vast collection of recordings on vinyl and tape.

Following are two different routes to take you west to the ocean, depending on what you would like to see.

Route A takes you west by Museum Row on the Miracle Mile and the La Brea Tar Pits , if you're interested in pre-historic saber tooth cats and mammoths.
Route B is west via the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood .

Route A via the La Brea Tar Pits and the Museum Mile

Continue down Sunset to La Brea. Turn left on La Brea until you get to Wilshire (about 2 miles). Turn right on Wilshire. You're entering the Museum Row on the Miracle Mile, which includes the Craft and Folk Art Museum, the striking Petersen Automotive Museum - whose shiny steal ribbons over red surface look like a car rounding the corner from across the street - and the many buildings of the LA County Museum of Art .

As you pass Curson, look for metered parking on the right in front of Hancock Park near the Page Museum and the La Brea Tar Pits. If there is no parking available on Wilshire, turn right on Fairfax and right on 6th Street to park on the other side of the park or park in one of the pay lots. There are entrance gates from 6th Street and from Wilshire, but the biggest tar pits are near the Wilshire entrance.

Take a quick stroll through the park to see these active tar pits where more pre-historic fossils have been discovered than anyplace else on earth. Active excavations are underway and there are daily tours of the current excavation pit at 1 p.m. Fossils from these pits have found their way into museums all over the world, but the largest collection is here at the Page Museum.

Optional Detour: If you're ready for lunch head up Fairfax to 3rd Street to the LA Farmer's Market to grab a bite at one of the many food vendors in this permanent market building. If you finish lunch quickly, you might have time to stroll next door for some shopping or celebrity spotting at The Grove .

Continue west on Wilshire to Rodeo Drive .

Route B via West Hollywood

Instead of turning left at La Brea, continue on Sunset through West Hollywood on the famed Sunset Strip. You'll pass the Comedy Store and Laugh Factory where many famous comics got their start. You'll also pass some of LA's most revered live rock n' roll venues, the Viper Room , the Whiskey A-Go-Go , and the Roxy. West Hollywood usually has an interesting collection of quirky billboards soaring above the sidewalk cafes, bars and shops that line the streets.

Entering Beverly Hills , Sunset becomes a windy road with green hedges and trees blocking your view of most of the mansions tucked behind them. You'll pass the famed Beverly Hills Hotel on the right. You can turn left off of Sunset for a detour down famed Rodeo Drive which is at a 6-way intersection crossing Sunset at the same place as Cañon Drive.

Continue down Rodeo Drive

Rodeo Drive on the 1 Day LA Tour

From Sunset, turn left and proceed through several blocks of well-groomed mansions before you arrive at the short stretch of high-end designer boutiques recognized around the world. Rodeo Drive dead ends into the Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire Hotel on Wilshire Blvd. You can either go around the block and go back up to Sunset or turn right on Wilshire and head west toward the Beach.

If you're already on Wilshire, continue West to Rodeo Drive, which only goes to the right. Metered parking is available on Rodeo and surrounding streets, and some parking structures have an hour or 2 of free parking if you want to get out and walk around.

The designer shops only occupy three blocks, then Rodeo becomes a wide boulevard passing through a Beverly Hills neighborhood of multi-million-dollar mansions all the way back up to Sunset Blvd. Turn Left on Sunset heading west.

Sunset is a winding green route to the beach. Wilshire is an urban landscape of retail and commercial buildings with a green stretch through the L.A. Country Club.

If you want to take the Wilshire route, turn right at the Sunset 6-way intersection down Cañon Drive, then veer right at the next block on Beverly Drive, just to give you a different view back down to Wilshire, where you’ll turn right and pass Rodeo Drive again on your way to the beach .

If you're in any kind of a hurry, the Wilshire route is usually slower, but they'll both be pretty leisurely.

To Santa Monica via Sunset Boulevard

If you take Sunset, you'll drive by UCLA on the left. You can detour through campus if you're interested. It's a beautiful campus. Beyond UCLA, after you pass Will Rogers State Historic Park veer left on Chautauqua as Sunset veers right. (If you miss Chautauqua, Sunset goes all the way to the beach, but it will add several additional curvy miles to the route.) Chautauqua will take you down to the ocean, where you will turn left on Pacific Coast Highway (known locally as PCH). PCH is a limited-access highway as it comes into Santa Monica . Take a slight left from PCH onto California Incline, which is basically a left-exiting off-ramp from PCH to Ocean Blvd, where you will turn right for a few blocks before turning left on Broadway and right into the parking structure adjacent to the Santa Monica Place Mall. Alternately, if you miss California Incline, you can stay in the right lane and follow the signs to take the middle exit on Moomat Ahiko Way (as PCH turns left and Appian Way goes straight), then turn left on Ocean and right on Broadway to the parking structure. If you miss the curve and end up on Appian Way, take the next left up to Ocean.

Be sure to stay right and NOT follow the Pacific Coast Highway or you'll end up on the freeway. If that does happen, take the first exit, Lincoln, turn left on Lincoln back to Colorado Ave, then take a left back to the beach. The parking structure will be on your right after 4th street.

Parking structures 7 and 8 adjacent to the mall have free 90-minute parking, $1 for the next hour and $1.50 per 30 minutes after that. The lower floors are 3 hours only. A few other downtown lots have the same rates. There is also parking at the Civic Center, or there are multiple pay lots at the beach and short-term metered street parking.

To Santa Monica via Wilshire

Take Wilshire through Beverly Hills and Century City, into Santa Monica to 4th Street; turn left on 4th. Turn Right on Broadway and left into the Santa Monica Place parking structure.

Alternately, if you're running late and it's not rush hour, you can take Wilshire to the 405 Freeway South, exit to the 10 Freeway west, exit 4th Street at the end of the freeway. Follow the sign for 4th Street, then turn left off of 4th onto Broadway and into the parking structure.

Exploring Santa Monica

Parking is free in the Santa Monica Place parking structure for the first 90 minutes, as are other city parking structures in the vicinity. If you are in need of a restroom, there are public restrooms at the shopping center.

From Santa Monica Place or the parking structure, exit on foot toward Broadway and the Third Street Promenade.

If you want to visit the Pier, turn left and walk down Broadway to Ocean. The Pier is one more block to the left at Colorado. The Santa Monica Pier has a Carousel, a solar-powered Ferris Wheel, a small roller coaster and a couple other rides at Pacific Park , as well as the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium, a Trapeze School, a fast food court and restaurants and some gift shops - and of course, a great view of the Pacific Ocean and Santa Monica Beach . There are summer concerts held on Thursdays at the foot of the pier adjacent to the on-pier parking lot.

Third Street Promenade is lined with shops and restaurants and usually has an array of street performers, especially during summer and on weekends and evenings the rest of the year. For some budget designer snacks, head upstairs at the food court at 1315 Third Street Promenade and try a Wolfgang Puck Pizza. It's only budget compared to dining at Wolfgang Puck's other Santa Monica establishment, Chinois on Main.

Venice Beach

Retrieve your car from the parking structure at Santa Monica Place and make your way around the block to where Main Street starts on the other side of the Mall. Main Street will take you through an area of shops, galleries and restaurants as you cross over into Venice Beach . Proceed to the traffic circle at Windward and look for a reasonable place to park. There are a variety of parking lots in the neighborhood with prices ranging from $3 to $15 depending on the day and season. In the off-season, you may find street parking. If you're stopping for less than an hour, you may score a spot right there on Windward right by the beach. Don't forget to note your space and pay at the pay station mid-block.

From Windward, walk to the right, down the boardwalk between the vendor stalls and the street performers past the outdoor gym at “Muscle Beach.” Walk about 7 short blocks to watch the sunset over a casual dinner at the Sidewalk Café. If you're all walked out already, there's a parking lot off the alley behind the Sidewalk Café just off of Clubhouse Ct. For those on an even tighter budget, grab a slice of pizza or a sausage sandwich at one of the Venice Beach snack bars and find a spot on a bench or a nice stretch of sand to enjoy the view. Bring a sweater or jacket. The beach is cool in the evening, even in summer.

After dinner, you're close to the airport if you've got a red-eye flight to catch, or you can deadhead back to Hollywood and grab a drink at one of the Roosevelt's 6 bars or restaurants.

If you're still standing, head out to one of LA's Top Dance Clubs or Comedy Clubs .

Buying a new vehicle from a nevada dealer.

Vehicles purchased from a Nevada dealer are eligible for online registration . The dealership will provide you with an Electronic Dealer Report of Sale (EDRS) number, which acts like a ticket number to register your vehicle online . You may also use this number to register your vehicle through our MyDMV app .

You'll need the following:

Electronic Dealer, Rebuilder of Lessor’s Report of Sale or Lease (EDRS)

You must obtain liability insurance from a Nevada-licensed carrier in the exact name(s) which will be on the registration and title. The effective date of the policy must be equal or previous to the registration date. Out-of-state insurance is not accepted.

You must apply any tax exemption at the time of registration. We do not issue refunds or apply exemptions retroactively.

Buying a Vehicle from a Private Party

Private party vehicle scams are on the rise. Many "too good to be true," limited-time, or cash-only deals posted to social media are often scams to sell vehicles that have been stolen and had their VINs switched or odometers tampered with. Make sure to:

Obtain a photo of the seller's ID.
Get the seller's contact information.
Never interact with a third party who is not the seller you contacted.
Meet at a DMV VIN inspection station to have the VIN checked. If this isn't possible, utlize the VIN history tools available through other parties.
Accept no excuses if the seller doesn't have the vehicle's title. Walk away.

Sellers must provide a vehicle title. A Bill of Sale by itself is not acceptable.

Buying and Selling

Laws you should know.

It is illegal to sell a vehicle on an empty lot in most circumstances. The DMV recommends private party sales be completed at a residence. Buyers may wish to check the seller's ID.

It is illegal to sell more than three personally-owned vehicles per year without a dealer's license .

Subleasing and "take over payments" arrangements are illegal. Any loan or lien on a vehicle must be satisfied before it can be sold.

Salvage vehicles should be rebuilt, inspected and titled as Rebuilt before being sold to a private party. A vehicle that has been issued an orange-colored salvage title may not be sold or registered in Nevada until it has been repaired and inspected.

Keep Your License Plates

Nevada law requires sellers to keep the plates and either use them on another vehicle or turn them in for cancellation within 60 days of the sale for standard issue plates or within 30 days for special plates. See Plate Surrender/Registration Fee Refunds .

If you wish to transfer the plates to the buyer, for example a classic car, you may complete a License Plate Release (SP 67) . Please note that registration fee credits will not transfer to the buyer.

If you have left the plates on a vehicle you sold, you may complete a Lost, Stolen or Mutilated License Plate Affidavit (VP 202) .

Sellers must provide a properly signed-off title to the buyer in private party sales, family sales or gifts. Any loan or other lien must be satisfied first.

If the title says 'person 1' AND 'person 2', both parties must sign it.
If the title says 'person 1' OR 'person 2', either party can sign without the other.

If you do not have a title, you (or the owner of record) will have to apply for a duplicate from the state where the vehicle was last titled. See 50 State DMV Links .

The only exception is if the vehicle was 1) last titled in Nevada, 2) is model year 2010 or older, and 3) has no liens or the owner of record has a lien release, the buyer and owner of record can then complete 1) an Application for Duplicate Title (VP 012) and 2) a Bill of Sale to transfer ownership. The owner must obtain an actual title on vehicles 2011 and newer and enter the mileage in the Odometer Reading section.

Insurance and Movement Permits

You must have liability insurance to drive any vehicle on public streets. Obtain insurance before you take delivery of the vehicle.

The seller should keep his or her license plates and surrender the plates or use them on another vehicle.

You may drive a recently-purchased vehicle without a movement permit for three days after the date of purchase if you carry, in the vehicle, proof of ownership or purchase and proof of liability insurance.

You must have a permit to drive the vehicle more than three days after purchase. You can obtain a movement permit at any DMV office without an appointment. Bring proof of ownership or, if possible, everything you need to register the vehicle.

The DMV does not disclose owner information to potential buyers. However, you may use the Vehicle Identification Number to query the following services. There are also any number of commercial services available.
